Dear families,

I hope this message finds you well. As I write this we are less than a week away from Pumpkinfest. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone Sunday at noon. A reminder, if you’re looking to help out, an e-mail went out via Blackboard connect on Saturday morning with links to different volunteer opportunities for set-up, breakdown, and Pumpkinfest itself.

Meeting​ ​tomorrow​ ​(Monday)​ ​evening​ ​regarding​ ​9th​ ​School

On Oct. 16, there will be a Joint Public Hearing of the Board of Selectman and the School
Committee regarding the decision to expand potential 9th Elementary School sites to include
the acquisition of land at Pine Manor College. This meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in the
Brookline High School Auditorium.

Meeting​ ​on​ ​October​ ​17​ ​regarding​ ​BHS​ ​expansion

On Oct. 17, there is a School Committee Workshop regarding the educational plan and space
summary for the planned expansion of Brookline High School. This meeting will take place at 6
p.m. in the School Committee Room on the 5th floor of Town Hall.

Carnival Rides and Snacks, Spooky Space, International Foods, Japanese Crafts and much much more! Donations for Wheel of Fortune and Books Sale are still needed, please drop donations off outside the office or in the Library before Thursday!!

FUNdraisers in the Parent Lounge
The Parent Lounge (in the Library) returns for its second year! There will be parent-sponsored FUNdraisers to sign up for as well as some light refreshments. We are still collecting donations from parents for events they’d like to host! The events can be whatever you like! Want to host, but not sure what?  No problem! The Board of Selectmen and School Committee will hold a Public Hearing regarding the decision to expand potential 9th Elementary School sites to include the acquisition of land at Pine Manor College, 400 Heath Street, Brookline Massachusetts.

The public is invited and encouraged to attend and participate.

Brookline Parents Organization Open Meeting

Thursday 10/19, 8-9 pm at the Pierce Auditorium

Join us for an open meeting of parents from across Brookline. At the BPO Open Meeting we will discuss Recess, Green Schoolyards & Nature Education, Food in the Schools, Testing, Data Collection, the 9th School, and more. Lincoln parent and MIT professor, Kieran Setiya, will be talking about his new book, Midlife: A Philosophical Guide at the Brookline Booksmith, 279 Harvard Street in Coolidge Corner, at 7:00 pm, Tuesday, October 24. “Drawing on celebrated thinkers like Aristotle, Schopenhauer, John Stuart Mill, Virginia Woolf and Simone de Beauvoir, as well as Setiya’s own experience, Midlife offers philosophical wisdom and practical advice for overcoming the trials of middle age.”

Brookline Library Family Fall Fest

The Family Fall Fest is scheduled from 3-5:00 on October 26th (on the side lawn of the Village branch).

The Children’s Department is looking for volunteers for the 6th Annual Brookline Library Family Fall Fest.  I’m hoping for 3-4 volunteers to help pass out cider and pumpkin muffins, manage the line for our face painter, help kids painting their mini pumpkins, and referee our lawn bowling contest.
